What is a ceramic coating?

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that's professionally applied to your vehicle's painted surfaces and can also be applied to plastic trim, glass and wheels. Once cured, it chemically bonds to form a durable protective layer. Unlike traditional waxes or sealants that sit on the surface and wear away within a few months, ceramic coatings are designed to provide years of protection when properly maintained.

Can a ceramic coating prevent scratches?

No. A ceramic or graphene coating won't make your vehicle scratch-proof or prevent stone chips. While some coatings can help reduce the risk of very minor wash-induced swirls and marring, they shouldn't be considered a substitute for paint protection film (PPF) or careful vehicle maintenance.

How long will a ceramic coating last?

The lifespan of a ceramic coating depends on the product used, how the vehicle is maintained and the conditions it's exposed to. Do new cars need a ceramic coating?

Yes. While a new vehicle may look flawless when it leaves the dealership, its paint is still exposed to the same environmental hazards as any other vehicle. UV exposure, bird droppings, bug splatter, tree sap, road grime and everyday contaminants can begin affecting your paint from the day you start driving.

In recent years, many vehicle manufacturers have adopted thinner paint systems as part of modern manufacturing and environmental requirements. While these finishes still provide excellent protection, they can leave less material available for future paint correction if scratches or swirl marks develop. Applying a ceramic or graphene coating early helps protect the original finish and may reduce the need for more aggressive paint correction later in the vehicle's life.

Is a ceramic coating worth it?

For many vehicle owners, the answer is yes. If you take pride in your vehicle and want to keep it looking its best with less effort, a professionally applied ceramic coating can be a worthwhile investment. It provides long-term paint protection, enhances gloss and significantly reduces the time and effort required to keep your vehicle clean.

How should i wash a ceramic coated car?

A ceramic coating makes your vehicle much easier to wash, but using the correct techniques and products will help maximise its performance and longevity. We recommend washing your vehicle regularly using a quality pH-neutral shampoo, a soft microfibre wash mitt and safe two-bucket washing techniques where practical. Avoid harsh household detergents, abrasive cleaning products and automatic brush car washes, as these can reduce the coating's performance and introduce unnecessary swirl marks.

How long does the ceramic coating process take?

The time required depends on your vehicle's size, condition and whether paint correction is recommended before the coating is applied. While every vehicle is different, most ceramic coating installations take one to two days to complete, allowing sufficient time for thorough preparation, professional application and the initial curing process.

Do i need paint correction before ceramic coating?

The short answer is no, not every time. For a ceramic coating to have the best chance to bond with the paint surface, it needs to be perfectly clean. This requires a thorough multistage clean to strip all contamination from the surface. If your car is brand new and in excellent condition, it will still need to be decontaminated as it will have been exposed to the elements on its way from the factory overseas to the dealership. If there are some imperfections or swirls in the paint then a paint correction may be necessary to remove these prior to coating the vehicle. If your car is near new oy maybe a couple of years old, then it is highly likely that paint correction or a cut and polish will be required.
